Sand Dollar A Story of Undying Love Sebastian Cole 9780985115609 Books
I started this book with high expectations of an easy read and an enjoyable love story, and it started out that way. I thought how nice to read a romantic, loving story of 2 people that were obviously made to be together no matter what..................BUT after the second or third time of one or the other breaking things off without explanation ( at least one that made any sense at all ) I had gotten so frustrated and started losing interest immediately. I thought to myself ( as the saying goes ) poop or get off the pot already. What started out to be what I thought was a great love story something like a Romeo & Juliet turned into a very negative read for me so I skipped through several chapters just to see if ANYTHING wonderful had come back into the story and what I found was so disappointing and frustrating that I gave up on it and deleted it from my Kindle for good.I would not recommend this book.

Sand Dollar A Story of Undying Love Sebastian Cole 9780985115609 Books Reviews
The Sand Dollar The Story of Undying Love by Sebastian Cole is so thought provoking. I will continue to think about this novel for many days to come. I never thought there were so many ways to think about romantic love. What is love? What is false love? Noah and Robin are the main characters. There is always something or someone who presents an obstacle to their fast growing attraction for one another.Finding out whether there love is true and can last a life time takes a long time.
So often family members can present a problem for those who want to love one another forever. Noah is Jewish. Robin is not Jewish. This was not a problem for Noah or Robin. They just loved one another without a thought about the what ifs of loving someone who grew up with different traditions. However, Mariam, the mother, goes absolutely nuts when she learns that Robin is not Jewish. I was glad that Noah had the kind of love which remains steadfast through thick and thin. Robin was the one who taught him that it is alright to think for yourself and to make your own decisions. Your life is not your parents' life. Neither is your parents' life your life. Since life is as fragile as a Sand Dollar, there is no time to live by the persuasions of other people.
I felt that Noah's character grew far quicker than Robin's character. At some points in the novel I didn't like Robin. I felt she mistreated Noah. I felt she was terribly immature. I felt that she made Noah look and sound immature. I did not want Noah to love her. It is not easy to know whether Noah and Robin's love will last forever or just fall away in the sand. This is why I began to see the intricacies of love. For example, if the one you love stops loving you, do you continue to love them or give up and settle for a person you only love a little bit? When is it time to give up on love? When is it time to hold steady and wait for the one you really love?
Yes, this is a tear jerker. For every tissue you use there is a golden nugget of truth about romantic love wrapped in the tear. The tears are not wasted. The tears cried while reading this book are splashes of the meaning of genuine love in a time when the world is turning, growing, changing so rapidly. It is a love letter to those who wish to love some one more honestly and more deeply than ever before in their life.
There is also the questions about the end of life. What happen to our bodies? What happens to our souls? When is it time to let a love one pass to the other side? How important is it to have a living will? These deep questions and other questions were laid before me by the author, Sebastian Cole. I am so happy this book came into my hands. I feel that the book might have been sent by the angels. sebastiancoleauthorabout-me,

I really wanted to like this book too, given that it got so many glowing and positive reviews. I'll keep it short and sweet, though, because a detailed analysis of what I didn't like about it could turn into a dissertation. And given that I spent so much time reading the book, I don't have time left over to do that!
I think the book suffers from two major issues. One - the time jumps, as other reviewers have complained. The "big reveal" about the identity of the orderly wasn't that well done, mainly because he doesn't really factor that much into the story as a whole. And there IS a discussion section at the end of the book that suggests who the character really is, but I just didn't see it that way. I felt like the orderly, in the scheme of things, played a much more minor role than the author suggests. (If you read it, you'll probably get what I mean.) Two - the characters just aren't that believable, and the main problem here is that the dialogue is terribly stilted. They're all meant to be lovable characters with major flaws, or perhaps meant to be majorly flawed characters with some lovability underneath. Either way, the dialogue didn't serve them and I found myself really not caring one way or another how they ended up.
The love story played off as juvenile in nature, with characters who never truly matured or grew up in any way. The whole story ends with the summation of the main character, Noah, as "having lived his life by following his heart," or some such notion, but to me, Noah just came off as pretty much confused and immature throughout the entire novel. Robin, similarly, was not really well-developed as a character. The author explains her behavior by giving her a personality disorder, which is demeaning, quite frankly.
There were many themes Cole introduced but never got around to exploring. I kept wondering, what was the point of making the family Jewish? Would the theme of cultural propogation be explored? No. Was it a comment on the interaction between an American Jewish family and a significant other from a different religion or who embraced atheism? No. Would we explore a culture clash? No. The effect was that it made the Hartmanns look petty and conniving, with few redeeming qualities - their objections to Noah's relationship with Robin were hinged on the very differences between their religion/culture and Robin's, yet Cole failed to even explore the very themes he brings up.
I suppose Sand Dollar is a good read for people who like romance and big, fabulous, spiritual endings. For me, the story just didn't support it, and I, like other reviewers here, am really glad I got the book for free on . It's bad enough I wasted my time reading it, no need to have wasted my money, too.
I really wanted to like this book, especially after reading that it was compared to Nicholas Spark's work which I really enjoy reading. Unfortunately I found this nothing like Spark's writing and found it laughable that anyone would put this book in the same class. There was virtually no character development in this book to speak of and very little plot. I struggled to feel anything about any of the characters other than contempt or frustration, and had trouble finding any reason to finish reading the book at all. There was very little description in the book and the dialogue was simply ridiculous. I would urge you not to waste your money on this book, because if you're expecting a read like The Notebook you will be sadly disappointed. I wish I could get a refund for this one!
